E-magazine CULTIVAR - ISSUE 4 (41)
Table of contents:

The theme of this issue is the exhibition of Moscow cactilovers club in Biological museum by K.Timiryazev, Moscow, November, 2007. Prepared by Peter Lapshin.

The address to the readers from the head editor Valeriy Kalishev

Dear readers of the "Cultivar" magazine

I was with you almost 7 years. During this time many of you, especially the journal team, became very close to me. I want not only to express my thankfulness but also thank you for close and active cooperation. We made very good journal together. The journal was translated into two languages. It is not so frequent in the internet even today.

But everything will come to its end one day.

I was not so active in the magazine during the last year.

I have several reasons for this:

1) Age – I am 68 already.

2) State of my health – which becomes worth with the age. Especially the eyes

3) I chose special lifestyle, without certain living place. During autumn and spring – in the Northern Kavkaz, near the sea; summer and winter – in the Ural.

4) I almost gave up cultivating cactis.

I hope you will understand and not blame me.

As for the journal, I hope you will not throw it into the corner of you memory.

That is why I address you, the readers – help Peter Lapshin. Today he tries to reanimate the magazine. But it will be almost impossible for him alone. Furthermore, he supports the Moscow flower club, works with the "Cacti and other xerophilous cultures" journal, many city flower exhibitions.

He needs your help. I hope there are some people who will help him.

Sincerely yours
Valeriy Kalishev

This issue bodily dedicated to the cacti exhibition, conducted by the Moscow cacti amateurs club in a Biological museum by Timiryazev in November, 2007. This issue has our customary headings: "exhibitions" review of the exhibition, heading "Collection" (V.Serovaysky, P.Lapshin), heading "The Abnormal forms" (V.Filippov), "Sorts and hybrid plants" (S.Starovoytov and V.Kraynov) and "Parallel hobby" (V.Gapon and N.Schelkunova). By this issue we close down backlog on 2007. Though it is opened in May, 2008, we number it for past year, as this exhibition has passed in 2007.

Friends, colleagues, enthusiasts of cacti and other succulents! We invite you to send us photographs of your plants (with or without names), especially of colored and flowering cultivars. Your stories about cultivars from your collection are enthusiastically welcome! The most interesting information and photos will be published in the next issues of our magazine. There are many puzzles in this amazing world of cultivars which are yet to be solved and your photos and stories may be a valuable contribution to the studies of these astonishing plants. We heartily thank all the readers who sent us stories and photos of interesting plants from their collections. You are always welcome!
